  • By Ferry

The following ports are all approximately 6 to 7 hours drive from La Haute Faye: St. Malo, Cherbourg, Le Havre, Dieppe and Calais. The shortest crossing is Dover - Calais which is 1 hour 10 mins. - 1 hour 30 minutes. Dieppe and Cherbourg are approximately 4 hours, and St. Malo approx 6 hours. There is now a new cars only ferry service between Dover and Boulogne, called Speedferries - see www.speedferries.com The price for a car and up to 6 passengers return is around £50. The crossing takes 50 minutes and there are 5 crossings per day.

  • By Train

The Eurostar from St. Pancras goes all the way to Angoulême, which is 20 minutes from the house. One train involves a change of stations at Paris, the other, a change of platforms at Lille. Eurostar tel. 08705 186 186

  • By Plane
Ryan Air are launching a new service between London Stansted and Angoulême-Cognac from 1st April 2008. This is for summers only to start with. Flights are three times a week, on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings. Please see www.aeroport-angouleme-cognac.com for details.
Haute Faye is only 30 minutes drive from this airport. Follow signs to N10 and Bordeaux, then follow the green Périgueux signs. This takes you to the D939 Périgueux road, continue for 15 minutes through Dignac and Gardes-le-Pontaroux. Then continue for about 2 kilometres, turn left at the crossroads which says right to Villebois-Lavalette and left to Rougnac, Marthon and Montbron.
Then first right, which is signed to Haute Faye. Haute Faye is 1 km up this lane, the second house on the left.

Road improvements on the N10 South of Angoulême have now shortened the travelling time to and from Bordeaux Airport to just over one hour. Follow signs to Villebois-Lavalette from the N10 just South of Angoulême.

The following airports are all equidistant from the house, i.e. 1 hour 30 minutes by car: Bergerac, Limoges and Poitiers.

La Rochelle is about 2 hours drive.

Cars can be hired from the airports, it is probably best to book in advance when booking a flight, as there are some good deals.

  • By Car (Directions to the house)

From the NORTH:
Follow signs to Poitiers and then Angoulême. Travel South through Angoulême, following the green Périgueux signs, which take you through the commercial area of Soyaux, and on to the D939. The D939 South takes you through Dignac and then Le Pontaroux, which takes approx 20 minutes from Angoulême. After Le Pontaroux, continue on the D939 Southwards for about a mile. You will come to a crossroads saying right to Villebois-Lavalette and left to Rougnac and Marthon. Do not turn here, but go on round a bend, then you will see a 90km sign. Just after the sign, you will see a small lane on your left, turn up here. This leads 400 metres up to a crossroads and the house is in front of you with white gate posts, and a large barn. Go up the drive and the holiday cottage is directly at the top of the drive.

From the WEST:
From Bordeaux, take the N10/E606 then follow N10 Angoulême signs. Before coming to Angoulême, follow signs to Villebois-Lavalette. From Villebois-Lavalette, follow signs to Montbron and Rougnac, which will take you through Le Peyrat, to a crossroads where you join the D939 i.e. the main Angoulême - Périgueux road. Turn right here, go round a bend, then you will see a 90km sign. Just after the sign, you will see a small lane on your left, turn up here. From the SOUTH:
Follow signs to Angoulême. By-pass Mareuil and go through La Rochebeaucourt, or go through Ribérac and then Verteillac to La Rochebeaucourt. Follow the D939 North for about 3 kms. Just after two left turns to Édon, continue about 1 km and you will see a lane off to the right saying Haute Faye. Follow the lane Northwards and you pass a farm with a bungalow, the next house on the right is La Haute Faye.

If you do not drive, a pick-up service is available. 

  • Pick-up service to and from Poitiers, Bergerac, Bordeaux and Limoges Airports costs £50 or 70 euros per trip.
  • Pick-up service to and from Angoulême Train Station costs £20 or 28.40 euros.

For those wishing to enjoy this country cottage, and have no car, a shopping service is available to stock up with groceries.

  • Shopping service - up to 10 items costs   £3.50 or  5 euros
  •                             up to 30 items costs £10.50 or 15 euros
  • Bicycle Hire  10 euros per day per bicycle.
