One of the most interesting day trips from La Haute Faye is to the town of St.
Émilion. This ancient town is set on a hill, with vineyards and chateaux all around it. A small train connects various vineyards to the town, if you want to explore this way. It takes about an hour to drive there from La Haute Faye.

Another excellent trip is into the Dordogne, to the market town of
Ribérac, about half an hour by car. On a Friday there is a market in the morning, with excellent fruit and vegetables, meat and fish, as well as clothes, furniture, pottery and paintings.
Bourdeilles has a very beautiful chateau and is a wonderful town to visit for the day, about half an hour into the Dordogne.
Villebois-Lavalette, is the nearest small town, and it has a market on a Saturday morning in its twelfth century market place.


The chateau is also well worth a guided tour, which take place on Thursday - Sunday afternoons in the summer.

Cognac is about an hour away, and visits can be made to taste the local produce there.
Angoulême is famous for its vintage car race around the ramparts on the third weekend of September. It is also the nearest large city.

drive from the cottage
In addition, there are lots of villages within a 20 km radius where you can have a ten euro, five-course meal, and explore the old village streets. Examples are
