John and Judith Fulton moved to
live in Charente in November 2002, after spending many years working in
Scotland. John had his own marketing company, and Judith worked in the
Scottish Health Service.

Why did they move to France?
"We were both in search of
a warmer climate, and a better quality of life. Our children were all adult,
and we were lucky enough to have the freedom to move. We chose France because
we knew the summers were long and sunny, and we also wanted the four seasons.
Our previous knowledge of France had indicated that it had the things we were
looking for, such as beautiful old stone-built properties, plenty of open
space, well organised services, and friendly, polite people."

"When we were house-hunting
ourselves, we found it difficult to find places to stay, other than large city
hotels, so when we bought a house with an attached cottage to renovate, we
thought it would provide ideal accommodation in a country area, for holiday
makers and house-hunters alike. As we had both renovated properties before, we
were happy to take on the challenge of renovating a beautiful sixteenth
century property and restoring all the Charentais architectural features of
the period. It has been a very satisfying task seeing the cottage come to life
as a comfortable, beautiful place to stay."

We like to ensure that our
guests have peace and quiet and privacy, However, if they need advice or
assistance, we are on hand. It has, of course, been a challenge learning the
language and finding our way around the area and the services. As a result of
our own experiences, we are happy to pass on to others, local information such
as; places to visit; relevant shops; where to find a dentist or doctor; where
local administrative services are etc. And we speak English!"

"Whether you are looking
for a place to stay while you look for a house, are waiting to move into a new
house, or simply wanting an interesting, relaxing holiday, this cottage is
ideal. With its excellent wood-burning-stove, it is also an ideal place for a
winter break, away from the pressures of work, It is quick and easy to fly to,
and excellent value for money. For those anxious to stay where English is
spoken, they will have no problem and will be assured of a very warm
welcome."
