Come and explore
South-West France!
This holiday cottage is on the Charente / Dordogne border, about an hour and a half North-east of Bordeaux and the coast, and 20 minutes South of Angoulême. Attached to a
sixteenth century farmhouse, this self-contained cottage has been recently
renovated to a high standard. Whilst retaining original features such as
massive oak beams and a stone fireplace, it also provides all modern
conveniences such as a washing machine, microwave oven, TV, DVD/Video player and
a large range of DVD's, videos, and CDs. The cottage has been so well used since
it started as a gîte in 2003, that it has been re-furbished in 2007, with a new
fitted kitchen installed.
La Haute Faye holiday cottage is always spotlessly clean, and all faulty or broken items are always replaced in advance of new guests arriving.
Downstairs is a large living room with open views, a wood-burning stove, sofa bed, dining area and kitchen.
Upstairs is a large bedroom with a double bed, a single bed, a cot, screen, shower room/WC, and a lounge area with a view of the gardens and open countryside.
The cottage has a barbecue/patio area and bicycles are available for hire. A taxi service to and from the airport or station is also available, as is the provision of groceries if required. (see Travel Information - Extra services)
The cottage is set in large gardens with panoramic views looking West to the chateau of Villebois-Lavalette, and South to the Dordogne. It is an area of quiet, unspoilt charm with a wonderful sunny climate, and friendly people.
Activities available in the area include walking, swimming, cycling, bird watching and fishing. There is an area of Specific Scientific Interest which boasts many different varieties of orchid as well as various interesting Roman and pre-historic discoveries. St Émilion and Cognac are not far away, and provide a very enjoyable outing. The major cities of Bordeaux, Poitiers, Angoulême, Bergerac and Périgueux are all within easy reach for a day out. The immediate area has several charming market towns - the nearest boulangerie is two miles away, so fresh baguettes and croissants are easy to obtain in time for breakfast! |
